Starting from Scratch Over One Missing Piece
Know that moment when you’re working on a puzzle, and you’re down to the last piece? You turn it, flip it, try every possible angle, but… the piece just doesn’t fit.
Well, that’s exactly where we are right now.
We had a working prototype. We were motivated, ready to push forward, and fully prepared to turn it into an MVP. We were set to move on to product design, excited to see the full picture come together. But then we had a game-changing conversation that made us realize something crucial:

We were so focused on the wrong features that we lost sight of the bigger picture. We invested our energy into battery life and size, convinced that this was the path to achieving uncompromising flexibility. But in reality, we were limiting the use case without realizing it.
Had we continued down this road, we would have delivered an underwhelming product experience, leading to user disappointment and eventually, bad reviews. And the last thing we want is for our users to feel let down because we didn’t get the essentials right.
Don’t get us wrong – the direction was correct. But somewhere along the way, we took a turn that would’ve led us on a much longer path to achieving the right user experience. Considering the market’s impatience, that wrong turn would have cost us a successful market entrance.
It was like trying to force a puzzle piece into the wrong spot. It almost fit… but not quite.

To truly deliver on the promise of uncompromising flexibility, we need to rethink the product from the ground up. It’s not just about battery life and size – it’s about creating a product that is versatile, intuitive, and above all, genuinely useful.
The big question now is: How do we incorporate these new features into a similarly sized form factor and a reasonable price point, without turning our product into a luxury good? It feels like we’re staring at the puzzle, only to realize that the image on the box has changed.

Even though it surely is the right decision, I’m just so annoyed we can’t move on from where we thought is a solid place.
But we refuse to compromise on user experience. We’re doing this because we’re committed to delivering a product that truly solves a problem – not just a product that’s good enough. Luckily, we’ve got a fantastic team to do exactly that. (Talking to our newest edition: Radu Popescu! Welcome to heytaeg, we’re so happy to count you in.)
We know it’s going to take time, patience, resilience and a lot of perseverance. But we will rebuild this puzzle – even if it means starting from scratch.
Stay tuned. We’re far from finished.
See you next week,
Anna and the heytaeg team
